How to use this site:

Gypsy Info is a start to your learning, and not a definitive source. The Gypsy Jazz world is full of gentle nuance and strong opinions. So here we try to provide a fun and accurate starting point.

Mission:

This exists for one reason alone: the love of Gypsy Jazz. I remember back 14 years ago, watching Adrian Holovaty cover the Beatles on his Gitane, an unusual acoustic guitar with a tiny sound hole and an elongated bridge. Despite its exotic aesthetic, the sound was simply addictive. One click further was Django’s Improvisations. Since then, I’ve tried to learn as much as I can about the music and the instruments of this genre - through a mix of books, friends like Tommy Davy, forums, defunct websites like the “Favino Archive,” and true-experts like Jacques Mazzoleni (who sold me my first Selmer, and is indeed responsible for 95% of vintage gypsy guitars in the United States today).

This site is NOT affiliated with any professional dealer and is in fact not intended as a commercial exercise.

The only goal is to build the best and most honest knowledge base for people who fall in love with Gypsy Jazz guitars and music. To that end: (a) thank you for being here, and (b) please help. If you find an opportunity to add or change what’s here, just reach out. Much love,

- Spencer
