Festival Django Reinhardt “Samois”

This is the largest and most-prominent Gypsy Jazz festival in the world, often referred to simply as “Samois”. The festival has been run for over 50 years in the beautiful French countryside just kilometers away from Django’s gravesite. Every year, thousands make the pilgrimage to this effective Gypsy Jazz “Mecca.” In 2018, I had the pleasure to go too. Here’s some photos from my experience to give you some flavor.

Luckily, there are also smaller DjangoFests around the world.

Some of the real magic happens at night in the Samoreau camp site.

If you stay here, you’ll experience music 24/7 as groups play late into the night and other start first thing in the morning.
